Special Assignments by Boris Akunin

Special Assignments, The Further Adventures of Erast Fandorin, by Boris Akunin, is a charming story is set in Moscow in the late 19th century, when class structure was entrenched and influenced by various power structures of political bureaucracy.

This novel is an antidote to modern life – a fairy tale for the withering imagination of those of us who cling to the remembrance of a gentle existence. However, some of Akunin’s writing has darker overtones of the brothers Grimm. Much written by this Russian author resonates with mystery, intrigue, magic, and quite possibly you may find a recalcitrant dancing bear lurking within the pages.

Reach into your seafarer’s trunk, withdraw this book, find a quiet corner and enjoy!

Special Assignments was originally written in Russian in 1999, and translated into English in 2006.
