Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody

In 1984, Betty Mahmoody accompanied her husband from their home in America to his native Iran for a two week vacation.  After two weeks her husband decided that the family would remain in Iran. Gripping from the first page, this is the true story of Betty and Mahtob’s daily life in Iran, the Iranians who would risk their lives to help Betty and finally their escape across Iran and over snow laden mountains to Turkey.

Not Without My Daughter was later made in to a film starring Sally Field. Having read the book and seen the film, the gripping tale of daily life in Iran as an American and a woman is told with much more detail in the book.
