Carers are the unsung heroes in our society, providing unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged. Anyone at anytime can become a carer.
Australia’s 2.7 million carers make an enormous contribution to our communities, with their caring roles being valued at $60.3 billion annually – more than $1 billion per week.
For many, however, caring is a 24 hour-a-day job with emotional, physical and financial impacts that can also affect participation in employment, education and community activities.
Felicity Rogers from Carers NSW joins us to talk about caring, the resources available to carers, and helping carers improve their health, wellbeing, resilience and financial security.
