The History of 280 Pitt Street, SMSA’s Building

Discover the history of the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts building at 280 Pitt Street, and all the stories behind the scenes.

When Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts moved from its original building (which is now the Arthouse Hotel), the search for a new permanent home was extensive. Finally, a suitable heritage building was located, the historic Lincoln House, which needed extensive restorations and refitting.

In this guided talk and tour, Ellen Elzey will reveal how and why the SMSA moved here, what was in the building before we moved in  and even why our library ghost has a bell.

Join us to find out the fascinating story of this historic building.
