Jo Karaolis — With Enough Love

Join lifelong educator Jo Karaolis for the hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking, always inpiring story of  her ten years as principal of a small Catholic special school.

A former history teacher and Headmistress at prestigious private girls’ schools, Jo found herself ill-prepared when she became Principal at St. Lucy’s School, Wahroonga for children with disabilities.

Faced with the challenge of providing special-needs students with the same quality education as students from Sydney’s privileged schools, Jo was forced to confront both her own and societal assumptions on what is “best practice” for providing special education.

During her 10 years at St Lucy’s, Jo was, in her own words, “broken open to the beauty, courage and love [she] found in the children, the teachers and the parents”. Her inspirational story is  one of education and change, of spiritual greatness and small-minded clericalism, of political and bureaucratic cynicism and surprising compassion.
