Classic Film Night — A Separation (2011)

Classic Film Night

More than any other film A Separation, directed by Asghar Farhardi, has helped bring Iranian cinema to the attention of audiences around the world.

An Iranian couple must make a difficult decision: should they leave Iran to help their daughter’s education or stay so that the husband can look after his elderly father who has Alzheimer’s.

With a rich and complex plot that considers humain decency and frailty with a rigorous contemplation of responsibility, sacrifice, honesty and dishonesty, guilt and love and affection, it is no surprise that this film won the 2011 Golden Glob and Oscar for Best Foreign Film, as well as the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival.
