Jacques Tourneur’s Out of the Past (1947)

Classic Film Night

Jeff Bailey (Robert Mitchum) leads a quiet, seemingly uninteresting life a gas station owner in a small town until his secretive past as a private eye catches up with him.

Forced to tell the girl he loves (Virginia Huston) about his sordid dealings with a gangster (Kirk Douglas) and a femme fatale (Jane Greer), Jeff must return a high stakes world of danger, double crosses and duplicitous dames.

Filled with zinging one-liners, this noir masterpeice was directed by Jacques Tourneur who is best known for his work on Cat People (1942).
