Classic Film Matinee
Join us for a special Saturday matinee screening of one the world’s great cinematic splendors, The Travelling Players. In the British Film Institute’s 2012 Sight & Sound poll, 16 critics and five directors voted it one of the greatest films ever made.
Angelopolous’ 1975 masterpiece follows a troupe of threadbare players, travelling the country and performing their version of the traditional folk tale ‘Golfo The Shepherdess’ during a period of intense political upheaval. The players bear the names of the characters in the ancient Greek myth and as time goes on, the scenes from classic Greek myths are reflected their performances and in their own lives.
There will be a 30 minute intermission during the film.
