Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo

Jimmy Stewart stars in Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Vertigo as Scottie, a San Francisco detective forced to retire due to his fear of heights. His best friend, Midge (Barbara Bel Geddes) is always there for him, but he doesn’t realise that she is in love with him. When an old friend asks him to follow his wife Madeleine (Kim Novak) whom he believes is possessed, Scottie finds himself becoming obsessed with the enigmatic but troubled woman.

Featuring Bernard Hermann’s haunting score, Sol Bass’ classic opening graphics and impeccable costume design by Edith Head, Vertigo has consistently appeared in all-time best film polls. In 2012 it displaced Citizen Kane from the #1 position it had held ince 1962 in the British Film Institute’s Sight & Sound critics’ poll. Director Martin Scorsese has listed Vertigo as one of his favorite films of all time.
