Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai

Widely acknowledged as one of the best films ever made, Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai follows seven ronin (masterless samurai) who are hired by a farmers to fight the bandits that are terrorising them.

Although the samurai are insulted by what they feel is a stony reception by the farmers when they arrive, gradually they realise that the reaction was due to what the farmers have already lived through, and begin to train the farmers and construct fortifications.

Japanese with English subtitles, 207 minutes

NB: Due to the film’s approx. 3.5 hour duration, we will be starting the screening early at 5:45pm and will have a short intermission.
