About Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts
Sydney Mechanic’s School of Arts (SMSA) is the oldest operating School of Arts / Mechanics’ Institute in Australia, established in 1833 to provide its members with ongoing learning opportunities. As well as being home to the longest-running lending library in Australia, SMSA offers a robust public program of talks, readings, lectures and screenings covering topics in history, literature, culture, health, science, music and current affairs. SMSA also offers venue hire to its members and the public.

We are a small, dedicated team who are passionate about books, learning and the arts and we enjoy sharing these with the Sydney community through our Library and our events program.

About the Role
The role is responsible for all accounting and financial management services for the School.

We are looking for a qualified accountant (CPA or CA) with experience with MYOB and payroll. The role would suit a self-starter who can work unsupervised and who has intermediate to advanced Excel.

Responsibilities Include

  • All tasks associated with the conduct of the financial accounting and financial management services for the School.
  • Maintenance of accurate financial records.
  • Managing income and expenditure accounting systems.
  • Maintenance of staff records.
  • Management of payroll.
  • Preparation of financial reports for use by management and the Board.
  • Facilitating the annual audit of financial systems and records.
  • Oversight and reporting on the School’s investment portfolio.
  • Provision of advice on significant financial issues and systems issues that impact on the organisation’s financial performance.
  • Undertaking tasks within the School’s relevant policies and procedures.
