I hope you are all keeping safe during Sydney’s current lockdown.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to give you an update as to what has been happening at SMSA.
Max Bosotti has resigned from his post as Secretary, and his last day with SMSA will be 8 September 2021. We thank Max for his contributions since he started in the role in March 2020, including overseeing the refurbishment of the Henry Carmichael Theatre and continuing with the enhancement of the foyer and Level 1. His guidance of the organisation through the complexities of the pandemic was greatly appreciated.
Stepping into the Secretary role from 9 September will be Ray Seeto. Ray has been SMSA Board Treasurer since April 2021 and brings to the role a wealth of corporate experience and knowledge of SMSA operations. An accountant who runs his own practice, Ray is passionate about community involvement and engaging with the SMSA membership.
Sadly, COVID-19 has impacted several of our tenants and as a result we had to say goodbye to a few who have been with SMSA for some time. It has also hindered our ability to secure renewals, but pleasingly, we will soon be welcoming some new tenants.
Our venue hire has temporarily been suspended due to the lockdown, but regular clients will be returning once restrictions are lifted. We are still receiving several enquiries weekly from new and past hirers wishing to secure venues for the near future. We were delighted to receive a substantial Google grant enabling us to increase our advertising reach as part of our marketing plan.
Some of the special events we had planned for members this year have unfortunately had to be cancelled. We look forward to being able to welcome you to onsite events when restrictions have eased and we are already planning many exciting, varied events for your enjoyment in 2022.
While we wait for life to return to normal, we’re hosting some wonderful talks and film events for you to take part in via Zoom. If you need help getting set up with Zoom, we have a new service, Niche Academy, which provides simple online tutorials to assist with lots of different computer based programs, to make it easy for you to connect with loved ones and take part in online events.
It will be lovely to be able to see each other face to face again when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, please continue to engage with us online, using our online library resources or keeping in touch via our online events, Members Groups or our dedicated Facebook Group.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any queries or even just to say hello.
