Happy New Year.
I hope you are well and looking forward to returning to the SMSA.
This past year has been difficult for everyone, full of challenges for both the members and the School, however the Board is enthusiastic and positive for the future of the SMSA in 2021 and beyond as we move towards our 200th anniversary.
The renovation of the theatre has been completed and we now have a first-class facility thanks to the dedication and work of our Secretary Max Bosotti. To recognise the invaluable contribution of Henry Carmichael to the SMSA, the theatre has been renamed the ‘Henry Carmichael Theatre’. We look forward, COVID-19 permitting, to seeing you at the official opening in April.
We are continuing our events program in February via Zoom and in March look forward to holding an increasing number of new and exciting face-to-face events. Events planned this year include a special ANZAC film screening and a re-enactment of a nineteenth century SMSA debate.
The Library has now reopened with limited use of computers and limited access to the ‘Cuthbert’s’ café area.
Members Groups will resume at SMSA from March, COVID-19 permitting, and Max Bosotti will be in contact with Group Coordinators regarding special arrangements to ensure adherence to NSW Health regulations.
The Annual General Meeting is to be held on Tuesday 9th March, it would be wonderful to see you there (COVID-19 restrictions will apply and registrations for the event open 2 March).
In the past, the SMSA has experienced wars, depressions and financial difficulties amongst other things. COVID-19 is no exception.
I would like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding these past twelve months.
I look forward to seeing you again in this our 188th year.
As always please feel free to phone or email me if you have any questions or would just like to chat. Staff will provide my contact details.
