It has been a couple of months since my last message, so I wanted to provide you with an update on where we are at in regards to the current situation.
For the safety of our members, we have decided to continue with the Click & Collect arrangement for the remainder of this year. We will unfortunately not be able to host onsite member events until 2021, and regrettably this includes our annual members’ Christmas party. We’ll miss all your lovely faces, but look forward to welcoming you back in the new year when it is safe to do so. I can understand how frustrating this time has been for many of our members, however your wellbeing and safety is of the utmost importance.
In the meantime, we are working hard to improve building facilities and to prepare an exciting schedule of events in anticipation of welcoming you back.
In building news, the replacement membrane on the roof is nearing completion, which will prevent serious leaking on the 9th floor. Work on the accessible toilet on the ground floor will commence shortly and we expect to begin renovations on the theatre in early December, subject to equipment availability.
Venue hirers are slowly returning in a very limited capacity. Our venue coordinator stresses to organisers the importance of social distancing and the strict limits on attendees. Return to face to face meetings is at the discretion of each individual organisation.
We’ve had some staff changes since my last letter, and the board is pleased to welcome two new staff members who joined us in August, Andrea Shrewsbury (Marketing & Events Coordinator) and Poppy Roberts (Administration Assistant).
I appreciate your ongoing understanding and patience at this time. The SMSA has survived wars, depressions, pandemics and financial difficulties during its 187 year history and we will certainly survive this period, and look forward to welcoming you back in 2021.
