SMSA grant helps KYDS support youth mental health

In 2018, the Board of the SMSA awarded a grant of  $5760 to KYDS Youth Development Services, an organisation that provides easily-accessed, personalized counselling and mental health support to young people, helping them to understand and manage difficult issues in their lives.

The funding provided by SMSA enabled high-intensity mental health support by specialist clinicians for 5 young people. Through 62 individual counselling sessions, KYDS worked with these young people to understand, come to terms with and develop positive coping mechanisms. This support approached issues such as anger, anxiety, depression, family breakdowns, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.

KYDS continues to make a difference in the lives of young people in Northern Sydney and the broader youth population of Australia.

Through our Grants & Awards program, Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts provides support to educational, cultural, and community organisations who meet our criteria.
