Goulburn Strings
The Goulburn Strings Project
, an initiative of the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium, has received a $10,000 grant from SMSA to support their musical education program for beginner strings students at Goulburn Public School, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds. The GRC’s director, Mr Paul Scott-Williams spoke at the SMSA’s Annual General Meeting in March about the program’s inception and reported that there were increased literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students involved.

Moorambilla Voices
In July, the Board awarded a $10,000 grant to Moorambilla Voices, an initiative that connects talented kids in rural and remote areas with some of Australia’s finest composers, musicians, choreographers and regional artists. The program draws young people from around 70 schools across a region which represents the most isolated and disadvantaged area of NSW. The grant will help support their Moorambilla Arts Pathways (MAP) project which provides program participants with one-on-one mentoring relationships.
