Notice of Annual General Meeting

The Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts Annual General Meeting will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, 11th March 2014 in the Mitchell Theatre, level 1, 280 Pitt Street, Sydney NSW 2000.

Nominations to stand for election as a Director of the Board must be received by the Secretary prior to 5.00pm on Friday, 21st February 2014.The Nomination Form for 2014 may be downloaded from the SMSA website, collected from the Library, or requested by emailing secretary@smsa.org.au. (Please Note: Only the form denoted “2014 SMSA Board Nomination Form” is valid.) Candidates who have nominated for election will have their profile displayed in the Library and on the SMSA website from Tuesday, 25th February 2014.

Business of the Annual General Meeting:

  1. Acknowledgement of members present.
  2. Welcome by President.
  3. Apologies.
  4. Reading of Convening Notice.
  5. Confirmation of the Minutes of the previous AGM.
  6. Election of vacant Directorships.
  7. Presentation of the Annual Report for approval. The report will be available in the Library at least ten working days before the AGM.
  8. Matters arising from the Annual Report.
  9. Appointment of Auditors for 2014 year.
  10. Sealing of the Ballot Papers.
  11. Any other Business notified to the Secretary in accordance with clause 25.3 in the By-Laws (2012).

Elections to the Board

Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 11th March 2014

Nominations are now open for Election to the Board of Directors.

The Nomination Form for 2014 may be:

  • downloaded from the SMSA website,
  • collected from the Library, or
  • requested by emailing the Secretary at secretary@smsa.org.au.

Please Note: Only the form denoted ‘2014 SMSA Board Nomination Form’ is valid.

In accordance with By-Laws 15.3 and 31.2, to be eligible to stand for election you must have been a continuous member of the SMSA since at least 1 January 2012 and have paid your subscription for 2014 before 1 February 2014.

Candidates who have nominated for election will have their profile displayed in the Library and on the SMSA website from Tuesday, 25th February 2014.

Nomination to stand for election as a Director of the Board must be received by the Secretary prior to 5.00pm on Friday, 21st February 2014.

Forms may be lodged with the Secretary in person; by postal mail to
level 3, 280 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000; or by email to secretary@smsa.org.au.

The relevant By-Laws (2012)

15.3 A person wishing to stand for election must be a member of the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts for the two previous consecutive membership years, is eligible to vote and has been nominated by another member who has been a member for the two previous consecutive membership years and is eligible to vote. Nominations must be made in the format prepared by the Secretary for this purpose and submitted to the Secretary by the closing date for nominations. Details of the closing date for nominations shall accompany the Notice of the AGM.

31.2 A member is not entitled to vote at the Annual General Meeting of the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts unless they have paid the appropriate membership fee prior to 15th October in the preceding year and the subscription for the present year, and all money due and payable by the member to the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts has been paid.
