Last Thursday, SMSA and AMISA (Association of Mechanics’ Institutes and Schools of Arts) members visited the historic Richmond School of Arts to celebrate their 151st birthday.
Richmond Shcool of Arts is managed entirely by volunteer members, all of whom made us very welcome over delicious home-baked goodies and a cup of tea.
We were then treated to a tour of the facilities by President Margaret Thorne, who was able to show us some of the areas not normally seen by the public, and tell us some of the building’s history, both documented and oral. Something that stood out for me is that Richmond School of Arts has always been – and continues to be – a hub for its local community.
Following the tour, we headed back upstairs to look at some exhibits on the School’s history, and to partake of a lovely home-made luncheon prepared by the members.
Thank you Richmond for making your sister Schools of Arts welcome. We all had a fabulous time!
